Meet our fellows:

The Safina Center enhances the work of our small Staff by hosting ten to twelve Fellows whose fellowships generally last one to three years. Each year, we support a small group of early- and mid-career creators and connectors whose work addresses conservation, the environment, and/or social justice in unique ways.

Our Junior Fellowship Program helps launch the professional careers of young people who will carry their important work into coming decades, and our Senior Fellowship Program supports and propels world-recognized creators and connectors.

The Safina Center’s Senior Fellows Program was established in 2012, and its Junior Fellows Program launched in 2017 to help kickstart projects undertaken by promising young venture-level talent, helping launch the early thrust of their careers and create an affiliation of like-minded kindred spirits. The fellowship honors astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who had willed an endowment to the Safina Center for this purpose.

To date, the Safina Center has provided partial funding for 27 mid- and early-career creators and connectors who further human care and concern for the natural environment, wildlife, and humanity.
